Help for Heating

Family run heating and plumbing company in Bristol.

Gas engineer website design

About The Project

Help for Heating is a family-run heating and plumbing company serving Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas. With more than 20 years of experience and an excellent reputation backed by reviews on Checkatrade, MyBuilder and Trusted Trader, the business had already established itself as a trusted local contractor. However, their online presence was limited to a handful of directory listings and social media profiles.

We designed and built a brand-new WordPress website from scratch to showcase the full range of domestic and commercial services offered by the company. The new website provides a professional online presence, helps build trust with potential customers and creates a strong foundation for future SEO and lead generation activity.

Professional Photography Builds Trust

One of the standout features of this project was the use of professional photography throughout the website. Authentic images help create a more personal experience for visitors and immediately differentiate the business from competitors relying on generic stock photography.

As a family-run company, it was important to highlight the people behind the business. The photography helps reinforce the company’s reputation, showcase their professionalism and give potential customers confidence before making contact.

Supporting Multiple Service Areas

Local SEO was an important consideration throughout the website design process. Help for Heating serves customers across both Bristol and Bath, so it was essential that visitors could quickly identify the most appropriate contact details for their location.

To improve the user experience, we incorporated both telephone numbers within the website header, allowing customers to quickly contact the relevant office. This simple feature helps reduce friction and supports a better experience for visitors looking for heating, boiler and gas engineering services across both service areas.

What you need to know

Yes. For many gas engineers, boiler installations are among the most valuable enquiries they receive, making them an ideal focus for a professional website. Many homeowners begin their search online when looking for a new boiler, replacement heating system or a Gas Safe engineer to provide advice and quotations. If your website is properly structured and optimised, it can help you appear in front of those customers at exactly the right time.

Dedicated pages for boiler installations allow you to explain the types of boilers you install, the manufacturers you work with and the benefits of upgrading older heating systems. These pages can also target searches relating to Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal and other popular brands, as well as local searches within the towns and cities you cover.

Combined with customer reviews, professional photography, location pages and local SEO, a well-designed website can become a consistent source of boiler installation enquiries and help reduce reliance on lead generation websites and paid advertising.

Absolutely. Location pages are one of the most effective SEO tools available to local gas engineers. Most customers don’t simply search for a “Gas Safe engineer”. They search for a Gas Safe engineer in their town or city. Examples might include “Boiler Installation in Bristol”, “Gas Engineer in Bath” or “Boiler Repair in Swindon”.

If your website only has a homepage, it can be difficult to rank for all of these locations. Dedicated location pages allow you to target individual service areas while providing information that is relevant to local customers. These pages help search engines understand where you work and increase your chances of appearing in local search results.

When combined with dedicated service pages, Google Business Profile optimisation and customer reviews, location pages can become a major source of enquiries. They help attract local customers who are actively searching for gas and heating services and can significantly improve your visibility across your service area.

Absolutely. Many gas engineers already have a website but find that it no longer reflects the quality of their work or generates the enquiries they need. In some cases the website may look outdated, perform poorly on mobile devices or have very little SEO value.

A website redesign is an opportunity to improve much more than appearance. We review the structure of the website, the quality of the content, the user experience and the SEO foundations before rebuilding key areas. This often includes creating dedicated service pages, adding location pages, improving page speed and strengthening calls to action.

The result is a modern website that looks more professional, performs better on Google and provides a better experience for visitors. Most importantly, it becomes a more effective marketing tool capable of generating more enquiries and supporting the growth of your gas engineering business.

Many gas engineers rely heavily on Checkatrade, Rated People, Bark and similar platforms to generate work. While these websites can provide enquiries, they often come with ongoing costs and place you in direct competition with other businesses. In many cases, you’re paying for leads that are also being sent to multiple competitors.

A professionally designed website gives you an alternative. Instead of relying entirely on third-party platforms, you can attract customers directly through Google. Local SEO, location pages, service pages and customer reviews all work together to help your website appear in front of people searching for gas and heating services.

Over time, your website can become one of your most valuable business assets. Rather than renting leads, you’re building your own source of enquiries that you control. Many successful gas engineers use a combination of SEO and website marketing to gradually reduce their reliance on lead generation websites and increase the number of direct enquiries they receive.

With over half of all internet browsing and searches done with a mobile phone or tablet, it is vital your gas engineer’s website works on these devices.  A properly designed gas engineer’s website should do just that and change its appearance depending on the screen size.  All of our gas engineer’s websites work on all devices.

Yes. A Google Business Profile is one of the most important marketing tools available to a local gas engineer. When customers search for services such as boiler installations, boiler repairs, gas safety certificates or heating engineers, Google often displays a map alongside local business listings. This area, often referred to as the Google Map Pack, receives a significant number of clicks and enquiries.

A properly optimised Google Business Profile can help your business appear in these local results. It should include accurate contact details, service areas, photographs, reviews and a detailed description of the services you offer. Regular updates and new reviews can further improve visibility.

When combined with a professionally designed website and local SEO, your Google Business Profile can become a powerful source of enquiries. Many customers will call directly from your profile without even visiting your website, making it a vital part of any gas engineer’s online marketing strategy.

As a full service gas engineer’s website design company we provide a comprehensive range of hosting solutions for gas engineer’s business websites.  As well as hosting we can also look after email accounts for your gas engineer’s business.

Yes. Dedicated service pages are one of the most effective ways to improve both SEO and user experience. Many gas engineers attempt to cover all their services on a single page, but search engines generally prefer focused content that clearly explains a specific service.

For example, separate pages for boiler installations, boiler servicing, boiler repairs, gas safety certificates and heating controls allow your website to target a much wider range of searches. They also provide an opportunity to explain each service in greater detail, helping potential customers understand exactly what you offer.

Dedicated service pages also work exceptionally well when combined with location pages. Together they create a strong website structure that targets both the services you provide and the areas you cover. This approach can significantly improve your visibility on Google and help generate more enquiries from customers searching for gas and heating services.

A successful gas engineer website needs both technical SEO and content-based SEO. Technical SEO includes factors such as page speed, mobile responsiveness, security and website structure. These elements help search engines understand and rank your website effectively.

Content SEO focuses on the services and locations you want to target. Dedicated pages for boiler installations, boiler servicing, boiler repairs, gas safety certificates and heating controls help Google understand exactly what your business offers. Location pages for the towns and cities you serve can further improve your visibility in local search results.

Google Business Profile optimisation, customer reviews and ongoing SEO activity all play an important role as well. Together these elements help increase your chances of appearing higher in search results and attracting enquiries from customers actively looking for gas and heating services. A strong SEO strategy can become one of the most reliable sources of new business for a gas engineer.

Absolutely, reviews are invaluable for a gas engineer’s website. They build trust by providing social proof, reassuring potential customers about the quality of your gas engineering services. Positive reviews can also boost SEO by adding fresh, user-generated content, which helps improve search engine rankings. In a competitive market, showcasing authentic feedback can set your site apart, attract more visitors, and ultimately lead to higher conversions.

Local visibility matter

Get found on Google Maps

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing potential customers see when searching for a Gas Safe engineer, boiler installer or heating specialist. A well-optimised listing can help your business appear in Google Maps, local search results and the highly visible “Map Pack” that appears above many standard website listings.

A complete profile featuring accurate contact details, service areas, photographs, customer reviews and details of your Gas Safe services helps build trust and encourages more customers to get in touch. In many cases, homeowners looking for boiler repairs, servicing or installations will call directly from your Google Business Profile without ever visiting your website.

When combined with a professionally designed website and local SEO strategy, your Google Business Profile can become a valuable source of enquiries. It’s one of the most effective ways to improve your local visibility, attract customers searching for gas and heating services, and generate more direct leads from Google.

Local SEO strategy using Google Business Profile and website integration

Built for local SEO

Target the towns you serve

A single homepage can only do so much. If your gas engineering business covers multiple towns or service areas, dedicated location pages can be an extremely effective way to improve your visibility on Google and attract more local enquiries. These pages help you target the specific areas you serve while showing both customers and search engines that you’re actively working in those locations.

For example, separate pages for boiler installations in Banbury, gas safety certificates in Bicester or boiler servicing in Oxford can help your website appear in more local searches. This allows you to reach customers who are actively looking for a Gas Safe engineer in their area rather than relying on a single page to rank everywhere.

When combined with strong service pages and local SEO, location pages can become a valuable source of enquiries. They help increase your online visibility, improve your chances of ranking in multiple locations and generate more direct leads from Google.
